There was some quite astonishing weather on Camp Muir on Saturday on Mt Rainier at 10,100 feet. Winds reached minimum of 107mph with 132mph average and 155mph gusts.
The forecast at 700mb (around 10,000 feet) were for 60 to 70 knots (about 80 mph) so I suspect there may be some "orographic" component (lifting and compression by the mountain slopes). http://www.nwac.us/products/OSOMURCould be faulty sensors but they've died down now so perhaps not.
